THE WICCAN REDE: A NATURAL LAW
"Bide the Wiccan law ye must In perfect
love, in perfect trust Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill An ye harm none, do what ye will. What ye send forth comes
back to thee So ever mind the Rule of Three. Follow this with mind and heart Merry ye meet and Merry ye part."
This
"law" reminds us that we are all part of an interconnected whole. That we are all children of the earth connected to eachother
by its' "laws", the Laws of Nature. For as surely as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west our actions will effect
others. And as surely as the risen sun will give us light, an act of harm will inevitably come back to us. Just as the sun
is our connection to light, the Rede is our connection to our Gods, Nature, the Universe, our fellow humans and to our self.
To do good is to strengthen and bond. To do harm is to weaken and isolate.
Harm is not defined within the "Rede" since
the Rede itself niether condones or condems. Harm is defined within ourselves. Within is where we find our Gods and the answers
regarding our path. The Rede offers guidance. When we listen within, our understanding will deepen and our path will emerge.
As
the sun lights the earth the Rede lights our heart and guides our blessed journey
The Rede reminds me to take
care of myself. To strive for balance in my life. I am a working Mother. I love my work but it can be stressful and consuming
at times. I work with the mentally ill and have been since before I got married and started a family. The people I work with
are in many ways my "first love". They taught me alot about who I am. They were my priority. I had so much time to give. But
now I have other people in life who I love profoundly and have become my priority. Now I have to share what I gave so completely
before and do so without guilt or any sense of betrayal. This also includes giving to my self. Allowing for that important
"me" time so that I may rest and pursue my own interests. If I don't I will only be of harm to myself and become disconnected
to any notion of who I am and my place on this earth. My spiritual path will darken. I need to be good to me so that I may
be good to all those important to me and also strive for balance.
